Cool
Individual science fiction stories may seem as trivial as ever to the blinder critics and philosophers of today - but the core of science fiction, its essence has become crucial to our salvation if we are to be saved at all. - Isaac Asimov
There's an IRC channel set up for this place - #scifistudios on the EFNet network (irc.efnet.org). If you have mIRC installed, just click this link (mIRC will open it and you will come to the channel). Maybe I should open #syzygystudios as well...

I agree with the InSight Guys about Iron Man II being really good! I just saw it on Sun. I don't want to give spoilers, but I agree with a radio review I heard about good characterization and cool effects. If anything, it was better than the first one.
Thanks for the show, guys!

It was at least *as fun* as the first one. However, it was not as *good* - and I'm going to tell you why.
The characters have reverted since the first movie. Throughout the first, Stark went from extravagant egotistical playboy to someone who actually cared about others. Then, in the second, he's back to being an extravagant egotistical playboy. It's fun, sure, but it's problematic - not just because of the reversal of character issue (which in itself is quite bad), but because it creates a problem for the third movie. In the comics, Stark developed alcoholism and depression over time. He never lost his wit, but he did lose his edge. That's part of what made the character so interesting, he had to pick himself up from that. Since they didn't use the second movie as a stepping stone on the way to that fall, they are either going to have to ignore it completely - which will make the character of Tony Stark less interesting - or that whole aspect is going to get cramped in there. Neither works. So yeah...now they have a problem.
Hopefully they can use the Avengers movie to fix that problem. Since Joss Whedon is (re)writing and directing that, I'm hoping he'll see the issue and fix it - if he's allowed to. He *is* a great character writer, so who knows?
Edit:
Apropos Iron Man 2... http://www.popsci.co...t-real-iron-man

I disagree there's a problem with the Stark character. In movie one he did indeed get an epiphany re selling weapons, and implemented company policy changes. But he didn't change who he was. Notice at the end he says "I am iron man!" His God complex (narcissism) and ego coming through. He was still the faulty genius, just one who had woken up to one issue very relevant to his capture experience. His character wasn't reverting, he was just in new circumstances, the world peace etc. that allowed him to go back to old habits. I think they did a great job on him. He was appealing for his genius and physical strength, but had believable faults he had to be made to overcome.
