Quite a lot of the text is really hard to read, but it's going to look great when you're done with the CSS :)
Individual science fiction stories may seem as trivial as ever to the blinder critics and philosophers of today - but the core of science fiction, its essence has become crucial to our salvation if we are to be saved at all. - Isaac Asimov
There's an IRC channel set up for this place - #scifistudios on the EFNet network (irc.efnet.org). If you have mIRC installed, just click this link (mIRC will open it and you will come to the channel). Maybe I should open #syzygystudios as well...

Now this looks nice. It's a bit hard to get used to the white letters, but that's not a problem .

However, I would recommend to use a different background as this one is a well known background / template image what other corporations used to add to their templates, but those pictures usually cannot be used on this way (I got the same picture to my website template as the company advertised their product with it. But that doesn't mean I can use the picture on any way as I want.). I would advise to look after the license fees and copyright rules of this material as different rules and laws applies for personal use, which used to be free in many cases, but corporal usage used to work via licensing and paying even if it's a template picture such as this one. As this presentation falls into the second group I advise you to look after the terms of the owner to avoid any possible confrontation between the owner and Syzygy. Maybe the owner doesn't want anything, just credit, or nothing, but it's better if you know his / her terms regarding his / her work.

Otherwise, excellent job, Tom. Keep up the good work.

Well Istvan, take some time to come up with a creative background yourself. Figure you could do a good job at that if you find the time.

As for the forum itself, I actually find the white letters much easier to read, especially when my room is dark at night. A little more consistancy (so all the type-boxes blackwith white lettering, quote boxes, etc) is needed, but I am sure will come in time. One suggestion I have is to make the forum atleast partially transparant (20%?) so the background image is a little more consitant. I don't see much point in a fancy background if you can't even see an outline behind all the posts.

Great work Tom!

Holy cow! This looks So different I thought I was in the wrong place for a moment, and then thought the right place just hadn't loaded properly. Clearly, I'm coming into this late though, seeing as everyone's talking about white letters and there aren't any white letters.

I had to put the forum back on the white default skin, I am having an issue with the CSS saving on the skins. Dave. there was a new custom dark skin on here that i was making, that's why people are commenting on the letters etc.. I will put it back on that when I can fix the css editing issue, you just missed seeing the dark skin by an hour. LOL

Well i found out that this server can not handle the amount of CSS being saved (it's that slow!) So I will have to do the skin on my test site (on my host) then just put it up here. It was also very difficult to upgrade the forum i had numorous timeouts during the install making me have to do all the mysql changes manually. It got to the point that I don't want to do any type of work on this host because it will just waste time because of the slowness and other issues. Sorry, i'm just fustrated because of the limitations.

So it's a problem with the server ? Is there a way to get a faster one ?

Not really, my host i gave galacticabbs.com someother sites and video I only pay 9.99 a month for, thats it , yet it runs circles around this VPS host. I think Dave got a bad deal on this. He could easily get the same host i have for the main site and this forum and put video on another host.

Tom, do you have this site/forum backed up off-server?

One way or another, we'll need to switch soon anyway. I've found one for $200 a month that will allow up to 50,000 video stream plays per month and have our own branded video player. Not sure yet what other options are out there yet, but it's a host specifically geared toward companies that stream video.

If you're looking for one good host, Hostgator (GalacticaBBS' host) or my personal favorite Bluehost (My site's host). These two are used to be the best. For monthly payment HG is better, but BH is quite cheaper for 24 month, then HG. Also at BH you get 75USD extra advertisement credits from Google and Yahoo (I don't know what you get at HG, but I guess they're also offering some great bonuses.). Both companies have 24/7 support, both can handle larger web traffic and you can trust in both as they used to be called as the bests on the world. As Tom trust in HG, I also trust in BH as I never had any problem with them. So, I guess one of the two would be appropriate for Syzygy as they used to be fast and reliable.

The question is, is it approved by the current host to move the domain names to an additional host. Sometimes it's not authorized for an x period of time.

Yes, I have Hostgater for GBBS and my other sites, I even got my friend Sky, who owns Renegade Studios to get a package there and I moved all the sites related to RS there and even have the STOGAM movie now playing from that host (since we dropped the expensive Dragonfly video hosting). It's a great deal for 10 bucks a month. Dave does need a better host for video, based on the scope he wants to do. I would say put the main site and this forum on a Hostgator type host then put all the video related sites and stuff on the better host, that way if the video host gets hammered it will not effect the main site and forum here. As for Bluehost, Anthony who runs trekmovie.com (the highest traffic Star Trek site on the internet) was on this for a while and he seem to run ok with it.
