Happy Canada's Birthday everyone! I just saw Shatner on CBC TV doing some comedy/hosting for the celebrations. My kids couldn't believe he was "Captain Kirk." He said good things about Canada, introduced a Montreal singer... :P

Thanks, the kids are making my cake tonight. No special plans besides eating it and relaxing a bit. I'll probably make dinner, it will turn out better. Rob made it last night and Elise said next time I should give him more instructions. I went to a concert last night, but I was working at it - the karate club was raising funds. My job was selling beer tickets. I don't speak french so my friend took the cash and I tore off the right kind of tickets and handed them over (not as easy as it sounds, with rapid fire orders for different drinks in French). I saw a bit of the warm up/sound check, but none of the actual concert, as there was a steady stream of customers. They were cover bands for Stix and Pink Floyd, they were pretty good. By midnight people were getting pretty drunk, some had trouble telling us what they wanted, tried to pick up my young friend. Sensei was impressed with the amount of tips she and I got.

Right now there is what Rob describes as a 'self-opening' gift in the centre of the dining table. It looks like a large firecracker, complete with fuse. Gifts from the kids are in-progress of being made from the contents of the craft box. Monday is a holliday here, nice of them to have one for my birthday. :P

By the way, Dave, your birthday song is coming out to the tune of the Paul McCartney version for some strange reason.

Happy Birthday Wendy!

Time certainly flies by, of all the people I have known online you are one of the first.
(our Enterprise Project days, 6 years ago)

Sir Paul is here in Boston this week, the excitement is building. My son and his wife are going to Thursday show.

Have a great day and enjoy!

Happy birthday, Wendy! :P
Individual science fiction stories may seem as trivial as ever to the blinder critics and philosophers of today - but the core of science fiction, its essence has become crucial to our salvation if we are to be saved at all. - Isaac Asimov
There's an IRC channel set up for this place - #scifistudios on the EFNet network (irc.efnet.org). If you have mIRC installed, just click this link (mIRC will open it and you will come to the channel). Maybe I should open #syzygystudios as well...

Thanks, everyone, yes, it was a good birthday. We discourage the kids from spending money on us for gifts, they both made beautiful crafts. Rob wrapped flashlights in a mysterious cylindrical package with a wick to light at the top (small firecracker). I appreciated Ryan's offer to boil eggs for dinner, but I made fresh herb pesto, the others made the cake for me yesterday. Had fun with my new music DVDs. Not nearly impresssed with Queen live DVD as Paul McCartney. Paul takes energy from the crowd and does often even better live than recorded, Queen seemed to be a pale imitation of their album as I remember it. But it's still pretty good.

Off topic a tad, but I figured I would give a quick story to Wendy about Sir Paul in Boston.
My older son and his wife went early to Boston and were sitting outside at a cafe having something to eat before the show.
Limo pulls up stopped at the traffic light. Back window rolls down and guess who it was.
Sir Paul had a quick chat with my son then off he went. Neat little story, now back to our regularly scheduled Birthday thread.

Happy Birthday, Bill! :)

Thanks for the news re your son and Paul! It was kind of funny, at the Worldcon, people were playing Guitar Hero and a woman near me said she'd wait to play til she could get the Beatles on the game. When I told her about seeing Sir Paul recently at the Halifax concert she got excited and wanted to touch me. She was a first generation fan. In the dealers area, some Beatles cards were some of the few things not SF/F related for sale there.
