I found this on a Canadian Sci Fi forum, "Canadian Geek":

Video Game Research Participants Required
by HHComics » Wed Oct 13, 2010 6:33 pm

The study we are conducting is exploring connections between gaming and lucid dreams (dreams in which the dreamer has control) as a possible means of treating Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder in military personnel. As such we are looking for current or former military members who are also avid gamers.

My supervisor, Dr. Jayne Gackenbach, is well-respected in the field of dream research, and it is our hope that this study will yield results that will be helpful to those suffering with PTSD.

Access to the anonymous online survey can be found here: http://rsurvey.athab...u.ca//index.php ... 88&lang=en

There has been significant media coverage of Dr. Gackenbach’s recent work. One of her interviews can be found here:

Please feel free to contact me at this email address if you have any questions or require further information. We appreciate any assistance you may be able to offer us in recruiting research participants.
Have a fantastic day!

I saw the results of such a survey not long ago, it appears gamers have more control over their dreams than what is normal. To me this seems like a familiar conclusion. The idea is that during nightmares, where most people (the vast majority of non-gamers) "run away" and get scared the response of many gamers is instead to turn the tides on the nightmare and go on the offensive. We gamers are used to "taking charge" in intense virtual environments, and that habit rubs off on our dreams (which, technically, is just another virtual environment).

I believe other tests have shown that when it comes to the old "fight or flight" response to a real life crisis, gamers have a higher-than-normal probability of choosing to fight and there are very few gamers within the relative large group of the population that freezes completely in intense high-stress situations.

There's an IRC channel set up for this place - #scifistudios on the EFNet network (irc.efnet.org). If you have mIRC installed, just click this link (mIRC will open it and you will come to the channel). Maybe I should open #syzygystudios as well...

I would love to have been a part of that study, but since I was never in the military, that kind of lets me out.

Wonder if it's still up and running.

I was thinking of you when I posted that, CT. I was guessing email wouldn't reach you, or not at any address I have.
I guess you have some catching up to do!
