Stargate Universe?

Syfy recently canceled Stargate Universe, would it even be possible for Syzygy along with other investors, help SGU have a third season? I'm not sure if Syzygy considers SGU to be sci-fi or not, but overall the Stargate franchise has always kept the science as part of its core premise and I find SGU no different. Any kind of support for saving SGU is appreciated. Here is a bunch of websites part of our campaign:

I can't really speak for the rest of the guys here, but personally I thought SGU sucked. Thoroughly. I watched all of it because it's Stargate and I'm a huge fan of the franchise, but SGU was awful =/

I wrote at length about why, here:

http://www.myspace.c.../blog/524066787

That was after the first season I believe, and I should probably write an update now that the show is done. They did fix some of my concerns, but decided to screw other things up even more to balance things out.

SGU was certainly science fiction. The problem was that it was ashamed of it.

Oh, and welcome dioxholster :)

There's an IRC channel set up for this place - #scifistudios on the EFNet network (irc.efnet.org). If you have mIRC installed, just click this link (mIRC will open it and you will come to the channel). Maybe I should open #syzygystudios as well...

I can't agree. Stargate Universe completely lost the soul of Stargate, but I still enjoyed it as a thing unto itself.

Couldn't agree more.

On it's own, one can enjoy SGU, but I never felt it was part of the Stargate Universe (pun intendend)
Even the appearances of SG1 characters felt out of place. I was kinda afraid what SGU would bring,
When I first saw it, I wasn't too keen on it, but decided to give it a try. I still follow it to see how it will
End, but again, for me it's a show on it's own.

Am looking forward to the SG Atlantis tV movie.

As long as it bore the name Stargate it was always going to be an anchor around the neck of the franchise. :(

Same could be said about Star Trek The Motion Picture, but the franchise survived.

True but that was just a one off film, an ongoing series is another kettle of fish altogether.

True, but as a collection of the SG franchise, SGU was 1 season out of... 18? Plus several movies. While it was the most recent, it on it's own is insignificant compared to the franchise as a whole. One SGA movies start coming out, and maybe even a better series in the future, it will be all but a forgotten portion of the SG saga. :)

I haven't even gotten over being pissed about SGA being cancelled before its time.

I've um, gotten as far as season one of the original Stargate. Way behind! There's actually a reason, I found some of the S1 eps a bit hokey, drippy. The season ender was suspenseful though, and I do have season two on my shelf ready to watch.

Watched all of SG1 and Atlantis. At first I was a bit weary when they announced SG-A, but it did continue the saga, different crew, but all the ingredients were still there.

Did other seasons beyond one continue the obviously preaching of morals?

I don't recall any preaching of morals. Especially since the very first episode featured full frontal nudity of Daniel's wife.

I don't really remember any thing of that nature, or at least any more than nearly all SciFi is packed with. Star Trek was full of that, of course.

I quite liked the pilot and probably the first episodes, and the season ender. There were some in the middle, one in particular I found to be that way. The idea of it is good, it has cool ships etc. I haven't yet found it my favourite of space dramas. Certain TOS eps and the new ST movie are my very favourites. I plan to see the rest of Stargate in order, I know it does help seeing things properly in order from DVD. Unless I was watching too many of it in a row and that's why I found some "sameness" to some of them. Now I feel like starting season two...

I didn't remember the nudity, but it wouldn't bother me. I like to see a strong male hero. I suppose if he'd been naked I'd remember?

The great thing about Stargate, in my opinion, was that while the concept and storylines (and their execution) was generally top-notch, what *really* carried the show were the characters and their interactions. This factor just grows stronger and stronger throughout the series, and even with the few shuffles in the cast it still worked splendidly throughout. When you come to a point in watching a series where you notice the characters interacting strongly through subtle body language, and *you get it* - then you know the show is brilliant. SGA lacked a bit in that department, but Rodney McKay and his Czech sidekick more than made up for that :P

I can see I'm going to have to do a proper analysis of Stargate, figure out where in season one I got a bit fed up and why. The character interaction getting stronger as the seasons go sounds good. Maybe I have some good fun ahead - though I've sort of steered away from watching too much space drama while writing my own, so as to not be influenced or get my head in the wrong universe. I'm really way behind on some things. For a while around the 80's I didn't keep a TV for four years so I'd spend my time not at work painting and writing. We did get videotapes of TNG from a friend to watch at my parents place. One day I'll catch up.
